I am inspired to write this post after reading a fellow blogger and someone I look up to. Thank you, Mandy.
Yesterday, I was talking to a friend since it was his birthday. We got chatting about the current new things in our lives. When I mentioned that I am taking some academic courses apart from my Civil Services studies, he discouraged me saying I should focus on some goal. An only goal where I would be the best. I tried reasoning and telling him how these courses are shaping my understanding as a person, someone who is into Sociology and the likes but I failed miserably. I had to listen to a lot of negative and discouraging conversation. Dejected but also in a way feeling that not many people understand the importance of studying various fields, I hung up.
And today, I read Mandy's blogpost about using goals as tools. She is such an inspiration to me. I always feel that having too many goals can be a distraction but I also strongly believe that these too many goals prove to be a challenge to me. I love taking up academic courses that are rigorous, that sometimes make me crib about them but mostly, its the ambition to get through these fields of knowledge, of new things that motivate me strongly. I recently finished a PG diploma in Urban Planning and Development amidst very pressuring Civil Services exams. And my score is something I am too proud about. Not only did I score distinction in two subjects out of five, my overall percentile is first class. It is a source of great pride for me to have taken and passed the course after a gap of almost five years since my graduate studies.
I wish to encourage everyone to take up challenges and not be bogged by their complexity. Make goals and be steady and slow at first, if you feel it's too daunting, but never give up. We need tools to focus and start a given task at hand. While we must also set up a destination to complete these tasks, what really matters is setting up goals to reach that destination. Like the old adage goes, Not the destination, but the journey matters the most. We are meant to constantly improve upon ourselves, not compromise. Let's get up and start with our challenges, facing them one at a time or all, but never backing down. Our strength lies in our belief in ourselves. Get up and pump it inside your veins. Nothing is impossible if we fix our goals and chase them with consistency. Fight with the spirit of a champion. Let everyone hear the roar. Let it begin NOW!
