My Love Affair with Gulmohar

As I have written here in so many posts, all my childhood memories with Daddy are beyond precious. Him and me shared very little time when I was young because he was posted in another city and me & my mother lived in another small town. He came home on weekends and those two days, Saturday & Sunday, were my days with him. I would accompany him everywhere, wherever he went. To the market, the artillery canteen, to the town on long scooter rides. We would deliberately go around faraway places and then he would stop the scooter by the road where hundreds of Gulmohar trees stood tall, way back in 1995-96, almost twenty years ago. Dad would make me sit on the scooter and pluck Gulmohar flowers or sometimes he allowed me to stand on the scooter seat and reach for a bent Gulmohar branch. We would then sit for a while watching the vehicles drive past on the road. Back then, vehicles were a few and the roads were often empty. I remember those breezy encounters on Hamara Bajaj towa...

....Taare Zameen Par!

Sea Poison Tree- Always wondered why they are known by this name! These are such pretty flowers with their pinkish-white fibers. When I first saw them strewn on the ground, I was captured by their beauty and thought they resemble stars fallen on earth. These were clicked in October 2007, at Bombay Port Trust Garden, also known as BPT Garden, Colaba . The official name of this Botanical Garden is Sagar Upvan. I first went there following a Landscaping Studio in School. Landed at the garden at sharp 8am, since its open from 5am- 9pm. Its one of the richest and lushest gardens in Mumbai along the Arabian sea. For me, the only other Botanical garden that made my jaw drop is Lalbagh Botanical Garden in Bangalore. Its one of the biggest gardens in the city. Cubbon Park is another favorite of mine. Its called 'lung' area of the city and rightly so, for its located right within the heart of the city. My short stay in Bangalore in 2008 was made beautiful and memorable b...

More Gulmohar spotting!

Looks like this summer, i am destined to be encountered with the loveliest of Gulmohar blossoms across the city! I was walking through the by-lanes of Mazagaon, two weeks ago, and in this quaint place, saw the most beautiful spread of trees along the roadsides. Another beautiful place for exotic trees is the Joseph Baptista Garden in Mazagaon. The garden is located uphill and offers a breathtaking view of the Mazagaon Dock. I was lured by the striking red i saw on my way up. I just noticed two birds perched high on the branches. I had no clue of their existence when the image was clicked. This is my most favourite of the sights of the tree that i've seen so far. The Chinese Fan Palm is dwarfed in the foreground and the Gulmohar provides a nice feather-y bubble to it. Think I should visit the garden again just for this view.
