And the cuckoo sings again!

With barely two hours of sleep last night since I spent it watching Kanhaiya Kumar's brilliant address at JNU campus, I woke up today morning to realise I had a host of deadlines to meet. Kanhaiya's call for freedom (Azaadi) kept lingering in my ears and the utter brevity to see so many people share their thoughts on social networking sites about his stance on socialism, secularism, equality and freedom from politics. With that fire in my belly, I wrote a first draft for a friend's branding consultancy website. I have no previous experience on writing corporate profiles but as they say, if you read well, then you can write well. (I would like to whole-heartedly believe this statement.) I realised how scattered student movements are in India. When I was in college, we didn't have any association, no affiliations with political parties of course, but no inkling towards social realities as well. All the students did was attend classes, sit at campus hot spots sipping...

Some questions

It's amusing to see people talk of a 'glowing' democracy in wake of such injustice and unfavorable prevailing political decisions banning freedom pertaining to food, culture and speech in this nation. And then there are the mass supporters who couldn't care less about Dalit girls sexually assaulted, killed and hanged from trees in villages. Why is human life, particularly those that belong to the "lower castes" so cheap? How do we reform this system? It's clear that education has done little to improve the mindsets of the upper castes and ruling communities in towns and villages. Politicos seriously need to "shut up" if they can't sympathize with victims of Molestation, Gruesome Dalit mass killings/murders, or communal violence. Sane people do not need creepy fake god men turned politicians to advise them on their reproductive rights and duties. Just what is happening to us? Why are we allowing ourselves to be ruled by these regressive ...

Dire State of Affairs

The last few days have been harrowing. Listening to all the crass and senseless statements by the politicos in our nation makes me wonder if we are closer to reaching our doom as a Democratic nation. I've been reading and studying the governing system and public administration for quite some time now. And though I've no expertise on the subject, I understand that the people who carefully studied and drafted the constitution were top notch intellectuals who knew what they were doing. If only, this current breed of pseudo-politicians understood what being a Democratic nation means, then we could have some peace and not make a collective fool of ourselves. This being said, I'm saddened to see the state of our affairs in cities and small villages in Maharashtra. Everyday the news channels broadcast a story on thirsty hamlets, drought-stricken lands and dying animals in Marathwada. Now somewhere water is being sold at 1paise per litre rate. This is what we've come to. We ...
