The Magic and Struggle of being Human

Why do Yesterdays seem better than Todays?  Just when I was pondering over this thought, I came across a British Adventurer, Tom Morgan going on a trip Around the World flying with helium balloons

He seemed inspired by the 2009 movie, Up where a seventy-eight-year-old man goes on an adventure in his flying house carried by balloons. It was such a visually beautiful imagery to see those colourful balloons tied up to the house through its chimney stack lifting the house and then soaring high in the skies.

These two images conjured up beautiful emotions within my heart. Human lives are full of adventure and the endless possibilities of finding magic in the most bizarre situations. The various factors that bring in all this happiness and love for new are possible only when people take an initiative on their own. The treasures of this life are left hidden for us to discover and find ourselves in the process. The surge of great joy that passes through my heart when I see such likelihood turning to reality, charges me for further moments of discoveries so far masked from our sight. That we can use these senses to experience beauty makes me go all grateful to mother nature.

These two examples show us that humans still yearn for that which is far from us and seems unconquerable because it is so far away. We all feel invincible when we see the starry glittery nights of summer and wonder if there are other beings in the universe apart from us. Would we ever get to meet them? What would life be if we do indeed find ways to survive outside Earth? As a child, I was quite starry-eyed about the space explorations and everything that happened outside Earth's sphere. It was natural to be fascinated with stories of space adventures and all that seemed beyond our reach at that young age. I remember being enthralled after listening to the moon landing stories and Amelia Earhart's solo flying narratives from my Dad. It was a great time to be a kid. It was the age of curiosity. It was also a time of learning kindness and being polite to everyone. Nowadays, human meanness knows no boundaries. I feel so saddened that we weigh being nice to others based on the fact of their kindness to ourselves. That's being plain mean. We are all human in emotions and I know, we could grow past these little things of judging people over how useful they are to us. Think, if we did that to everyone, we will realise we don't have many people left to be with.

I hope to find faith and hope in life's larger things as well. Here's to the exquisite magic and all the struggles of being human! May we grow in love and kindness towards all. Amen.

Book Tales

A cancelled lunch date led my feet astray to the book treasures on Flora Fountain. This happened on a busy Monday afternoon. I promised myself I wouldn't engage my eyes on books anymore after I ended up spending a whole lot more than I usually do. It feels like an addiction, something I can't let go off. While I am sure books will and should not be recognised as harmful addiction, I am painfully aware of the fact that splurging money on anything every time we see it is unhealthy. Of course, I know the psychology and the hard facts too, but buying books feels like conquering the access way to treasures of an inexpressible happy state of mind. When I was young, losing myself in the book world was not just for the introduction into the big wide unseen world but also for the love of imagination. I was fascinated with colours and story telling, had a thirst for adventure that seemed strangely missing in my childhood as it was so pronounced in Enid Blyton's books. I could n...

Forward march

Suddenly I've started feeling envious of all the 24 year-old youngsters. Not that I'm old compared to them, but I wish I WERE 24 today to possess the same energy, liveliness and excitement to do things. With these thoughts I was reeking in a wee bit misery last night, when I decided to install the Amazon Kindle app on my phone. It asked me a few preferences and rate some books for further reading suggestions. To my utter surprise, I saw books by Cheryl Strayed on the list. I had read about Strayed's WILD because of the movie promotions. So, I started off by reading Brave Enough: A mini instruction manual for the soul, intrigued by its title. The book consists of Quotes that helped Cheryl (forgive my first name calling, but I feel like she is my soul sister after reading the book), go through stressful times in her life while growing up. She writes about noting quotes that inspired her, everywhere in her house and places where she could read them always. I instantly knew w...
