This reminds me that I am increasingly reading stuff on the internet that puts architecture in a negative light! I love to laugh a lot, but this does not mean you keep on writing/reading/ publishing negative aspects about any art or profession! What happens is gradually one gets a whiff of everything grey and black and be disappointed, hold grudges or in a greater number be just disassociated with the art that they so loved and cared about!
I am still in love with architecture and everything that comes with it! Although, I reply to all those 'Why not to be an architect' messages from my Final year Thesis-ridden juniors and generally reminiscence on how We (Read: I) struggled a lot too during those Five long years.... every time someone asks me how did you study for five years or express amusement on five years of school and graduation, I so lovingly remember all the beautiful as well as hassled times I endured! Coz there's nothing more gratifying than reminding myself and remembering the wealth of information, knowledge, the eye into the world perspectives, the being a better human being part or the meeting so many amazing people, artists-architects, following the tide of human relations and emotions that I got through these years in architecture school, I can only be so happy, glad and feel blessed to be able to experience it!
Yet, its okay to be disillusioned with lot of its values or morals or the way professionals are handling architecture on a global level. I think we must always take the Best and Creative as well as not to forget the Society beneficial points to evolve into better architects if not citizens! Because really how many times do the best works of an architect really prove essential and usable to a society? Case in point, this following project, an arts centre by the legendary architect Oscar Niemeyer in spain- http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/oct/03/spain-niemeyer-centre-closes?newsfeed=true
This article voices very basic yet important issues that will impact a city and the nation as to is it important to invest in art/architecture for the sake of improving its tourism status? Similar cases are already seen in China where an entire urban township lies vacant due to economic strains on the occupants who cannot afford splurging, or even in India where government sponsored housing projects find less takers due to the growing economic rift between the rich and poor. Money, so important now must be wisely spent by governments across the globe! Today the wisdom lies not in merely spending or conserving but utilizing the resources before its too late!
